Well you should, Jenny’s helping me get my pretty on for Blogher 09 – just one short week away and she’s more than friend – she’s a blessing from this amazing blogommunity (yeah I know, needs work).
So go over to her place and check it out and get a small sneak peek at the fashions I’ll be sporting!
After Doug’s awesome job yesterday getting the AC back up and running, I can’t help but wonder if we’ve got it a smidge too cold in here?
(it’s super quick and you might want to turn up your volume)
I’m up at 7am.
On a Saturday.
Especially when you consider that the reason I’m awake at 7am on a Saturday is because the air conditioning went out. Distraught and dismayed, convinced this would literally cost me my trip to Blogher, I wallowed, pitiful and well, wallowing. “Why me universe? Why?”
You know what air conditioning repair dudes go for these days? Me neither, cause I’m afraid to ask. The AC going out in July has long-been my summer-fear. I don’t do muggy, I don’t do sweaty, I don’t do no-AC. I’m a whimp, a whiner, a pain in the ass if you will. This comes as little surprise to those of you who know me.
Doug got up early to ”take a look”. Doubtful in his mad HVAC skillz (*IS* HVAC air conditioning? Whatever, you get my point.) , I started working out in my head how I would need to sell a kidney or cancel Blogher. I couldn’t exactly shell out money for a good time in Chi-town while my family sat in the seventh circle of hell. Could I? No seriously, I’m asking, can I?
But just then, during my second chorus of The Thrill is Gone while laying spread-eagle on the tile floor of the bathroom (and no, not, from the night before, geez): a miracle in modern times. Cool air began blowing out of the vent. I’m married to a pretty cool (har) dude and it took the air conditioning going out to remind me. So thanks universe, but next time you need to send me a message via household appliances, why not break the washing machine or the dishwasher and make it a win-win for all of us?
Dearest Darling Husband -
Sorry I ever doubted you honey. I suck, you rock and everyone knows it. You amaze me. I fell in love with you all over again today when you did whatever it was you did with that fuse thingie (no, I wasn’t really paying attention when you explained it in detail). Just thinking of you is making me hawt all over, but this time me likey.
Here’s wishing you all a cool weekend and happy spousal, er, uh, relations.
Two weeks from tomorrow, at an unholy hour I haven’t seen since my departure from the US Army, four lovely ladies and me (I don’t do lovely at 5:30am) will embark on an adventure. An adventure that will be far more exciting than an African safari, far more hilarious than any HBO comedy special, and far more stylin as we’ll be cruisin’ in one of these sweetios:
And before you ask, no Mommy Bits has not stolen a car…geez, ye of little faith. But she did gather us together and got us on THE Blogher Blogroll – a select group of gals from around the country that will be hitting Chicago engines running courtesy of Chevrolet.
We will find out shortly (TRAVERSE) which of the snazzy Chevy models we’ll be, well, modeling and I’ll keep you posted (TRAVERSE) and let you know (TRAVERSE) my reaction to the automobile, which ever it might be (TRAVERSE). As someone that is still driving a car from the nineties (you know I hold on to the classics, hello ‘76 Nokia?), I’m betting if the windows go up and down without saying a novena, I’ll be giving the ride four stars. So thanks to Blogher (holla Erin!) and Chevrolet (holla @lesleyhittinger, @kamkam, @robnh, @connieburke and @gmblogs )
But the beauty of the Chevy will only be enhanced by the joy inside. How did I ever get so lucky to hook up with (shown left to right) Lu, Shannan, (me), Jennifer and Andi? We’re planning some light opera singing, a little Mambo #5 (if Andi will bring it out of retirement) and a game or two (shhhh, keep that to yourselves internets, I haven’t told the lovelies of my affection for anything Milton-Bradley).
We’ll be live-blogging, tweeting (duh), flipping, twit-pic’ing, pic’ing our noses, mooning passerbys from Michigan experiencing the wonder of the great American highways and byways, getting arrested meeting the locals, fleeing the county stretching our legs, eating lots of McGriddles prioritizing our health (as always), and going a little Thelma and Louise bonding as only a long road trip with great gal pals can do. If someone sleeps with Brad Pitt along the way, you’ll be the first to know.
See ya in Chicago suckers – you’ll be eating our dust.*
*I wish to inform Lesley and all of the wonderful folks at Chevrolet and Blogher that the use of the term “eating our dust” was used merely for dramatic effect, bravado if you will. At no point during our journey will any of these qualified-with-barely-a-blemish-on-their-records-gals be offering any dust to be eaten by our fellow drivers. Our hands will remain firmly in the 10 and 2 position, speedometer set at comfy and SAFE! 55 mph, while we listen to books on tape.
Pinky swear it.
Wow, it’s Tuesday and I’ve yet to recover from the weekend. As a typical Working Mom Against Guilt, being away so much during the week leads me to frightfully overbook the weekend to compensate…it’s a vicious cycle that leads to loads of fun but near-exhaustion by Sunday. Thank goodness I’m back to work – I needed the break! The highlights and some shout outs to the great folks who made the weekend so much fun for our clan:
Hit the Sprayground in Centerville and it was terrific. It is so well-maintained and clean and not over-crowded. Worth the drive from Cincy for sure and we’ll be back for sure!
On to Erin’s cookout to celebrate her upcoming book. Yep, that’s right, I’m hanging with a soon-to-be published author! Added bonus? More quality time with Jenny and added Becky and Andrea to the mix! So much fun. And P made a pretty serious love-connection with the R’ster…they grow up so fast.
Family time at the Northside Fourth of July Parade. Joined the fun with @veganjacob, @ms5chw4r7z, @5chw4r7z, @kate_the_great, @geekjames. Met up with some delicious biscuits at Take the Cake beforehand…dreaming up their yummy pimento cheese spread and roasted vegetables! yes! on a biscuit! right now!
Headed to Aunt Deb’s for dinner and what we’d hope would be the Blue Ash Fireworks, but no dice – too rainy. But! Doug made a strawberry pie, so there was that bit of deliciousness!
Finally, at the family gathering rounding up the weekend, we got to video-Skype with the kids in Gulf Shores. It was quite a treat for Grandma and Grandpa – what an amazing thing Skype is (pls get that Blackberry Application up and running, kthx)! And later, P got to hold a sparkler while I monitored my blood-pressure. But it was all good. And there was another strawberry pie! Bonus! Bonus!
All and all, quite a weekend. Though I doubt it, I wish P could hold onto some of these great memories – oh wait, that’s what this blog is for! Hope you all had just as much fun celebrating this weekend! God Bless America!
While at the amazing Sprayground in Centerville, P kept lifting her shirt. And yes, at three, while she’s not exactly flashing everyone, we’re still in public and standards must be maintained.
Me: Put your shirt down
Me: (five minutes later) Put your shirt down P, right now (geez)
Me: (three minutes later) Ok, we’re gonna leave if you don’t listen and put your shirt down (you little hoochie)
P: Why do the boys have no shirts?
Me: That’s just the way it is. Girls wear tops when they swim and boys don’t. (I know, might as well have gone old-school and offered “Because I said so”)
You know the kids who were refused any sweets growing up, so they become compulsive eaters as adults? What if my refusal to let her go topless has her end up as a stripper in twenty years?
Dude, parenting is hard.
…and here’s hoping he brings a post with him.
Sorry I’ve been out of it. But soon, very soon there will be…du du duuuu…a new post. Just not today.
